Less than $500 Wedding Photography Budget? Then Don’t Ask For Too Much

Ever since I started my wedding photography business, I am aware of the keen competition level on the marketplace.

Thanks to the affordability of DSLR entry-level cameras, the barriers to entry to this photography industry have dropped significantly.

Many freelance photographers with limited experience are now flooding the marketplace – providing very cheap photography services where their standards of quality are highly questionable.

However I am not pressured to drop my prices to meet the demands of the cheapskate wedding photography prospect.

I am all for affordable wedding photography that do not break your budget – but bear in mind that with a budget of less than $500… you are not entitled to any of the additional frills (like a high quality photo album of 100-200 photos).

You are also NOT entitled to a full day wedding shoot. (8 hours of my service).

Let’s say you pay me $300 for an 8 hour wedding shoot and photo album.

Let me break the cost down for you:
– a normal photobook or album costs a minimum of $250
– that leaves $50 for 8 hours for my labour

Let’s say you pay me $50 for 8 hours of photography services.

$50 divide by 8 is $6.25 per hour.

You know who earns $6.25 per hour in Singapore?

A 16 year old student or part timer working in McDonalds.

  • Are you sure you want McDonalds quality standard of wedding photography for one of the most important days in your life?
  • Are you sure you deserve fast-food quality standard of wedding photos – photos that are supposed to still exist even when your grandkids arrive?
  • Are you sure you shouldn’t invest that little bit more in wedding photography – like how you invested such large amounts for wedding decorations that last only for ONE (1) day?

(I am hearing of how wedding decorations can cost $3000 and up. But you pay only $500 for wedding photography memories that is supposed to last you for years. Where are your priorities?)

To the wedding couples who recognize the value I provide by capturing memories that last for a lifetime, I invite you to ask me for a fair and detailed wedding photography quotation.

My services are for those who understand that wedding photographers are professionals who have honed our skills covering hundreds of weddings.

I know that I am an excellent photographer with a great portfolio – who can transform my wedding couples to look great in photos because I know how to put them at ease in front of my camera.

Mak Andam can do so much physically – but I frame and compose the best angles for your wedding photos.

We are hard-working service providers who pride on delivering the best wedding captures for you.

You are special. You do not want mass-manufactured wedding photography quality.

Wedding captures that remind you why you are getting married.

Wedding captures that tell your stories for you when your future children ask “How was daddy/mummy’s wedding day? What dress did Mummy wear?”

For those who rather spend on expensive wedding decorations that last for ONE (1) day and have exhausted your budget for solid quality wedding photography, this is my solution for you:

  • pass your camera phone to a relative
  • sit on the pelamin (wedding dais) and ask them to take photos for you
  • sms them to upload their photos on Facebook and tag you

Yes, this is a sindiran tajam (sharp rebuke) to all future Malay wedding couples who want that entire wedding photography package….. but don’t recognize that with more frills comes with higher costs!

If your budget is truly truly limited, then lower and limit your expectations as well.

Or have a simple wedding instead. 🙂

We offer this simple package for the budget conscious couple. But do not haggle, or bargain or tawar menawar – this is not a pasar malam yang jual Ramly Burger.

(I don’t think you also bargain with the guy who sell Ramly Burgers – you might get “extra ingredients” added in.)

In the end, it is never about how much you spend on a 1 day wedding, but how many years your marriage last.

With that, I wish you Selamat Pengantin Baru – Semoga Berkekalan Hingga Anak Cucu! (May your marriage last till the grandkids come)

I love capturing wedding stories. I see each wedding as a creative opportunity. Every element of the story is important, and how we capture those elements is just as important. This is why I accept only a limited number of bookings each year, and never take more than one wedding on a weekend.
